New Beginnings

Hello skaters! Please forgive me for being away so long. Retirement from the military, working a new job and moving the family in a new house has taken all my time. I haven’t skated much in the past few months. However, I think of skating often. When I think of skating I mostly think of you all and I wonder how you guys are doing? Please drop us a line and let us know what your up to and if you are ok. The world is changing constantly and I would love to here from you. I know life has a lot of challenges and I also know skateboarding helps you cope with the challenges. Please feel free to stay in touch, talk to you soon.

Naughty or Nice?

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope the holidays and the New Year brings joy, health and satisfaction to you and yours.

My kids keep asking for iPods for Christmas so I ask them if they have been “naughty or nice” this year? So this prompted me to ask all of you the same thing. Are you going to get what you want from Santa this year? Have you been naughty or nice!? Leave your comments below (but please keep your comments PG13).

Freestyle Is the Most Punk Rock…

This is not my quote but it says so much about the sport. Freestyle skateboarding had a small run in “mainstream” skateboarding in the early 1980s but even that run was never truly accepted by the masses and the corporate skateboard world. Freestyle skateboarding takes an extreme amount of focus, discipline and dedication to really become good at it. It is that discipline that attracts such a small group of hardcore skaters still to this day. Even after two decades, FS is still underground – “punk rock” – if you will. Yet for the skaters that do it, it’s a real pleasure, a real challenge and a real form of self expression.

As for myself I like all forms of skateboarding, all of them so free and expressive. Freestyle skateboarding is simply the one form that appeals to me the most. It’s sort of like a chess game with the skater and the deck. It takes your whole mind, body and complete focus. But what I like the most is it’s always there for you, no matter what!
